Overview
The Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi yakuza organization included Kobe-based Yamaken-gumi, Osaka-based Takumi-gumi, and Kyoyu-kai (ja). They broke away from The Sixth Yamaguchi-gumi in 2015 and formed a new group called Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi.{{cite news|last1=Ap|first1=Tiffany|title=Japanese gang boss found beaten to death|url=http://edition.cnn.com/2015/11/17/asia/japan-yakuza-boss-found-dead/index.html|publisher=CNN}} The authorities closely monitored this split to try and relax tensions that exist between the groups. Since August there has been a slight increase in crimes throughout the country ranging from shootings to office attacks.{{cite web|url=https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2016/04/30/national/media-national/can-police-successfully-keep-lid-gang-violence/|title=Can police successfully keep a lid on gang violence?|work=Japan Times|date=30 April 2016 |accessdate=2023-01-01}} It was not until 15 April 2016, when authorities designated the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi as a crime syndicate.
At the time of its formation in 2015, Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi had 2,800 members, about half of the 6,000 members of Yamaguchi-gumi. However, as Yamaken-gumi, the core organisation of Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi, rejoined Yamaguchi-gumi, Kizuna-kai, Takumi-gumi and Ikeda-gumi (ja) split, and Masaki-gumi (ja) and Kyoyu-kai disbanded, by 2023 Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi had only 140 members, 4% of Yamaguchigumi's 3,500 members.{{cite web|url=https://bunshun.jp/articles/-/58618?page=2|title=《主要5組織が全離脱》ヤクザも驚いた「異例の2度の絶縁」山口組分裂8年目で迷走する神戸山口組の処分から垣間見える“メッセージ”|pages=|website=Bungeishunju|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230204111905/https://bunshun.jp/articles/-/58618?page=2|accessdate=31 March 2024|archive-date=4 February 2023}}{{cite web|url=https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/cb04347982b1baddeee4285daff470bdc74c1a82|title=【最新データを入手!】勢力差は25倍に拡大…10年目を迎える山口組分裂抗争「驚きの最新勢力図」|pages=|website=Yahoo News|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240324171110/https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/cb04347982b1baddeee4285daff470bdc74c1a82|accessdate=30 March 2024|archive-date=24 March 2024}}
