Prior to his appointment to the Senate, Rokotunaceva served as Assistant Minister for Education in the interim Cabinet formed by Laisenia Qarase in the wake of the 2000 Fijian coup d'état.{{cite web |url=https://m.scoop.co.nz/stories/WO0007/S00161/baba-says-new-interim-govt-unconstitutional.htm |title=Baba says new interim govt 'unconstitutional' |publisher=Scoop |date=31 July 2000 |access-date=16 April 2023}} He held office till an elected government took power in September 2001.

Personal life
Rokotuinaceva had three sons and a daughter with his wife, Adi Kelera.
