Kowmungia is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae.{{cite book|last1=Yang|first1=D.|last2=Zhu|first2=Y.|last3=Wang|first3=M.|last4=Zhang|first4=L.|title=World Catalog of Dolichopodidae (Insecta: Diptera).|date=2006|publisher=China Agricultural University Press|location=Beijing|isbn=9787811171020|pages=1–704}} It is known from Australia.
The genus was originally regarded as incertae sedis within the family Dolichopodidae, as it did not fit into any previously described subfamily. In the World Catalog of Dolichopodidae (Insecta: Diptera) by Yang et al. (2006), the new subfamily Kowmunginae was proposed to include both Kowmungia and Phacaspis. This placement was later criticized by Sinclair et al. (2008), who suggested that the genus would have been better placed as incertae sedis until a later phylogenetic study determines its placement.{{cite journal|first1=Bradley J.|last1=Sinclair|first2=Scott E.|last2=Brooks|first3=Jeffrey M.|last3=Cumming|year=2008|title=A critical review of the world catalogs of Empidoidea (Insecta: Diptera) by Yang et al.
