Kradolf is first mentioned in 883 as Chreinthorf. In 1276 it was mentioned as Kraedorf. Schönenberg an der Thur is first mentioned in 883 as Thuruftisthorf. In 1359 it was mentioned as Schönnenberg. Neukirch an der Thur is first mentioned in 1291 as Eliswil. In 1296 it was mentioned as Sêliswille, which remained its name until the Protestant Reformation. After 1520 it was known as Nüwenkilchen. Buhwil is first mentioned in 838 as Puabinwilare. In 1276 it was mentioned as Kraedorf.

Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 6.0% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 1.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 0.3%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 3.9%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Kradolf-Schönenberg about 64.1% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Kradolf-Schönenberg is home to the Schönenberg-Kradolf primary school district. In the 2008/2009 school year there are 200 students.
