High school career
He attended Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati. As a junior in 2012, Cheatham averaged 12.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.7 blocked shots per game, and was named honorable mention All-Ohio. As a senior he averaged 11.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.7 blocked shots, and 2.2 assists per game, and was named Co-Defensive MVP.
College career
Cheatham attended Akron University, majoring in sports management.{{Cite web|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/kwan-cheatham-1.html|title=Kwan Cheatham College Stats|website=College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com}} As a sophomore in 2014–15, he averaged 7.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 blocked shots per game, and finished the season seventh in the Mid-American Conference in blocked shots.
As a junior in 2015–16, he averaged 7.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 blocked shot per game. Professional career

He signed with BC Levski Sofia in September 2019. On August 24, 2020, he signed with Ironi Nes Ziona of the Israel Basketball Premier League.
