Works
=''Prospero's Daughter'' trilogy=
Lamplighter's first three published novels form the Prospero's Daughter trilogy, whose narrator Miranda is the daughter of the magician Prospero from Shakespeare's The Tempest. Set in the present day, it portrays Miranda and her siblings attempting to rescue their father from a Hell similar to Dante's Inferno.
The trilogy received favorable starred reviews in Publishers Weekly,{{cite journal|journal=Publishers Weekly|date=27 July 2009|volume=256|issue=30|pages=49|url=http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-7653-1929-6|title=Prospero Lost}}{{cite journal|journal=Publishers Weekly|date=14 June 2010|volume=257|issue=23|title=Prospero in Hell|url=http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-7653-1930-2}}{{cite journal|journal=Publishers Weekly|date=11 July 2011|volume=258|issue=28|title=Prospero Regained|url=http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-7653-1931-9}} which called the third novel "a satisfyingly epic combination of mythology, theology, and Shakespeare" and "intricate, intellectual fantasy at its best". Kirkus Reviews gave the first novel a mixed review, calling the protagonists unpleasant, distant and cold,{{cite book|title=Prospero Lost|year=2009|via=Internet Archive|url=https://archive.org/details/prosperolost00lamp|url-access=registration|work=Kirkus Reviews|publisher=Macmillan|access-date=12 January 2012}} but was more favorably disposed towards the two other novels.{{cite news|title=Prospero in Hell|url=http://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/l-jagi-lamplighter-2/prospero-in-hell/#review|access-date=12 January 2012|newspaper=Kirkus Reviews|date=15 June 2011}}{{cite news|title=Prospero Regained|url=http://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/l-jagi-lamplighter/prospero-regained/#review|access-date=12 January 2012|newspaper=Kirkus Reviews|date=15 July 2011}} The series has been mentioned in an article in Shakespeare Studies as "exemplifying the lure of reimagining Shakespeare's characters and their lives".{{cite journal|last=Osborne|first=Laurie|title=iShakespeare|journal=Shakespeare Studies|date=September 2010|volume=38|pages=55|isbn=9780838642702|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=mGqJodOK6bUC&pg=PA55|access-date=12 January 2012}}
