Origin and format

In late 2005, Label Fandango Records, was set up in order to release music from new and up-and-coming bands based in the UK. It began through Andy Macleod and Simon Williams, of Pointy Records and Fierce Panda Records respectively,{{cite web|url=http://www.drownedinsound.com/event/view/37862|title=Drowned in Sound – Reviews – Fistful of Fandango|publisher=Drowned in Sound|accessdate=2008-09-23|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080912194823/http://www.drownedinsound.com/event/view/37862|archivedate=12 September 2008}} who together were the creators of London live music promotions company Club Fandango. Williams had previously released the debut singles by Coldplay and Keane.{{cite news|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/the-twilight-world-of-aampr-513760.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100109102559/http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/the-twilight-world-of-aampr-513760.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=9 January 2010|title=The twighlight world of A&R|work=The Independent|accessdate=2008-09-23 | location=London | date=4 November 2005}}

The no-budget record company has a strictly DIY theme to it, with the tag line "No frills, All thrills". Inspired by other indie labels Transgressive, Marquis Cha Cha and Dance to the Radio, it specialises in limited edition seven-inch vinyls, released in a generic black and while sleeve branded with the "Label Fandango" logo. It complements its Fierce Panda parent, who recently ceased producing limited singles to focus on full-length releases.{{cite web|url=http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?storycode=1031533|title=Music Week – Declaration of Independents|work=Music Week|accessdate=2008-09-23}} The records are designed to project bands on to further opportunities with more major record labels, examples being Royworld and Air Traffic (who have since signed to Virgin Records and Tiny Consumer of EMI respectively).{{cite web|url=http://www.inthenews.co.uk/entertainment/reviews/music/rockindie/royworld-man-in-machine-$1223251$1223251.htm|title=Royworld:Man in the Machine|publisher=Inthenews.co.uk|accessdate=2008-09-23}} {{Dead link|date=October 2010|bot=H3llBot}}{{cite web|url=http://flywessex.blogspot.com/2006/05/air-traffic-signing.html|publisher=The Fly Wessex magazine.|title=The Fly Wessex: Air Traffic Signed|accessdate=2008-09-23}} The label has released 24 limited edition singles to date.
