Klotter |title=The Kentucky Encyclopedia |year=1992 |publisher=The University Press of Kentucky |location=Lexington, Kentucky |isbn=0-8131-1772-0 |chapter=Lakes}} by the construction of the earthen Renfro Dam, {{convert|72|feet}} high with a length of {{convert|1100|feet}}, owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The dam is a highway fill embankment along Interstate 75.
