Lake Maratanza is the highest lake in New York's Shawangunk Ridge at {{convert|2,245|feet}} above sea level. It is within Sam's Point Preserve.{{Cite web |title=Minnewaska State Park Preserve: Sam's Point Area |url=https://parks.ny.gov/parks/193 |access-date=2023-12-16 |website=New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation}}

The lake is dammed and supplies drinking water to Ellenville. The outlet brook drains to the other side of the ridge, into the Verkeerder Kill, a tributary of the Shawangunk Kill and by extension the Wallkill River.
