History

Lakeline Mall was originally envisioned as being the size of Barton Creek Square and construction was expected to begin late 1986,{{Cite news |date=1985-11-16 |title=Preliminary Lakeline Mall plans in 1986 |url=https://www.newspapers.com/article/austin-american-statesman-preliminary-la/155763441/ |access-date=2024-10-10 |work=Austin American-Statesman |pages=29}} however, those plans stalled, initially, due to the savings and loan crisis and later due to the discovery of two endangered species on the proposed site.{{cite news|url=http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/stories/2009/05/04/daily47.html |title=The Limited expanding to Lakeline |work=Austin Business Journal |publisher=Bizjournals.com |date=2009-05-04 |access-date=2010-03-04}}{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AASB&p_theme=aasb&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EAD92165A04A3C0&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM|title=Lakeline Mall plan proceeds Developer plans to break ground in January; center will open in fall '95 or spring '96 |last=Tyson |first=Kim |date=December 24, 1993|work=Austin American-Statesman |access-date=4 March 2010}}{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AASB&p_theme=aasb&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EAD8C6B526640AE&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM|title= Lakeline Mall is big step closer to fruition |last=Kay |first=Michele |date= July 3, 1991 |work=Austin American-Statesman |page =B6|access-date=4 March 2010}}{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AASB&p_theme=aasb&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EA25E4DD8F3E44E&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM |title=Lakeline Mall starting to pull regular clientele|work= Austin American-Statesman |date=1996-10-19 |access-date=2010-03-04 | first=JERRY MAHONEY | last=Date}}{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AASB&p_theme=aasb&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EAD919E66602547&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM |title=Intersection gets trashy: Area surrounding Lakeline Mall site used as illegal dump |work=Austin American-Statesman |date=1993-02-18 |access-date=2010-03-04}}{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AASB&p_theme=aasb&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EAD97B514CB5C12&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM |title=Lakeline Mall a sign of growth: Wednesday opening presages boom for Williamson County expected to last well into next century |work=Austin American-Statesman |date=1995-10-15 |access-date=2010-03-04 |first=Kim |last=Tyson}}{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AASB&p_theme=aasb&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EAD97878F18621A&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM |title=Lakeline Mall gives retail boost to Northwest Austin commerce |work=Austin American-Statesman |date=1995-01-07 |access-date=2010-03-04}}

When Lakeline Mall opened on October 11, 1995 it did so with replicas of various city landmarks and hot hair balloons that would fire fake flames at periodic intervals, however, these landmarks were removed in 2013.{{Cite news |date=1995-10-17 |title=Balloons and Blimp Facsimiles at Lakeline Mall |url=https://www.newspapers.com/article/austin-american-statesman-balloons-and-b/155586113/ |access-date=2024-10-10 |work=Austin American-Statesman |pages=51}}newspapers.com/article/austin-american-statesman-balloons-and-b/155586133/
