History
The mall was originally part of the Hacienda Armendáriz,{{Cite web |title=Malecón Armendáriz De Miraflores |url=https://consultasenlinea.mincetur.gob.pe/fichaInventario/index.aspx?cod_Ficha=11334 |last=Díaz Mejía |first=Mercedes |date=2022-08-18 |website=Recursos Turísticos}} specifically the section later known as Alfredo Salazar Park, inaugurated in 1953 in honour of the Peruvian aviator of the same name who sacrificed himself after his aircraft malfunctioned in 1935.{{Cite news |last=De Paz |first=Maribel |date=2017-09-20 |title=El parque Salazar: La historia del recodo que habita en las Páginas de Vargas Llosa y Ribeyro |url=https://elcomercio.pe/luces/libros/parque-salazar-historia-recodo-habita-paginas-vargas-llosa-ribeyro-noticia-459693-noticia/ |access-date=2024-02-04 |work=El Comercio |language=es-PE |issn=1605-3052}}
Its construction had been criticised by locals, including writer Mario Vargas Llosa, since it involved the destruction of a lush park and its acoustic shell and "Rincón Gaucho" restaurant.{{Cite news |title=«El Rincón de Siempre», una exquisita parilla argentina en Barranco |last=Alpaca |first=Luis Felipe |date=2021-01-12 |url=https://limagris.com/el-rincon-de-siempre-una-exquisita-parilla-argentina-en-barranco/ |work=Lima Gris}} The mall was ultimately inaugurated on November 27, 1998, by its architect, Eduardo Figari Gold.{{Cite news |title=Larcomar: ¿cómo surgió la idea de construir este centro comercial en un malecón? |date=2022-09-19 |url=https://larepublica.pe/datos-lr/respuestas/2022/09/19/quienes-son-los-duenos-de-larcomar-y-como-surgio-la-idea-de-construirlo-en-un-malecon-evat |work=La República}}{{Cite news |title=Larcomar: todo lo que no sabías del centro comercial |date=2022-09-14 |url=https://rpp.pe/capital/mundo/larcomar-todo-lo-que-no-sabias-del-centro-comercial-noticias-1432215 |work=RPP Noticias}}
