Laura Kamhuber (born 8 August 1999) is an Austrian singer. Her performance of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You", taped when she was a 13-year-old on the 2013 German edition of The Voice Kids, is the most watched YouTube video by an Austrian artist. She has recorded three albums.

Biography

Kamhuber has always loved to sing, and made her first public singing appearance at the age of three at her great-grandmother's nursing home.

From the age of ten she studied vocals at the Heidenreichstein music school.

While she was still ten, she participated in the casting for the NÖN Talent Contest in April 2010. "That was my first stage performance," she recalls, "and I was very nervous."{{cite web|url=http://www.noen.at/gmuend/noen-talenteshow-laura-kamhuber-einmalige-chance/4.237.461|title=NÖN-Talenteshow: Laura Kamhuber: "Einmalige Chance"|publisher=Noen.at|date=2015-03-17|accessdate=2018-03-09}} She finished second.{{cite web|url=http://www.noen.at/niederoesterreich/gesellschaft/der-noe-promi-der-woche-laura-kamhuber-junge-frau-mit-starken-nerven-der-noe-promi-der-woche-laura-kamhuber/74.877.470|title=Der NÖ-Promi der Woche – Laura Kamhuber: Junge Frau mit starken Nerven|publisher=Noen.at|date=2018-01-23|accessdate=2018-03-09}} Later in 2010, having turned eleven, she participated in the Austrian annual televised children's talent show titled Kiddy Contest{{cite web|url=http://www.fm1today.ch/laura-kamhuber-traeumt-nicht-nur/618078|title=Laura Kamhuber träumt nicht nur|publisher=FM1Today|date=2017-10-29|accessdate=2018-03-08}} where she reached the finals{{cite web|url=http://www.noen.at/niederoesterreich/kultur-festivals/noen-talent-bei-kiddy-contest/4.900.517|title=NÖN-Talent bei Kiddy Contest – noen.at|date=2010-10-04|accessdate=2018-03-09}} and finished in third place.{{cite web|url=https://www.meinbezirk.at/gmuend/lokales/die-grosse-chance-fuer-laura-kamhuber-d337682.html|title=Die große Chance für Laura Kamhuber|publisher=Meinbezirk.at|date=2012-09-11|accessdate=2018-03-09}} From then on, she regularly took singing lessons and often sang at small to medium size concerts.

At a fundraiser in 2012, she sang a folk song for the first time and discovered she loved the genre. The same year she made the semifinals in another Austrian talent show, Die große Chance on ORF. At 13 she was the youngest singer in the contest.{{cite web|url=https://www.news.at/a/die-grosse-chance-erste-finaltickets|title=Die grosse Chance – Süße Tanzmäuse sind weiter|publisher=News.at|date=2012-10-20|accessdate=2018-03-09}}

Thanks to The Voice Kids she was noticed by people in the music industry and had a production team formed around her. Uwe Altenried (composer) and Peter and Gaby Wessely (lyricists) wrote the first song—"Wer Ordnung hält (...ist nur zu faul zum Suchen)"—just for her. That was followed by a record contract with Tyrolis Music. In the same year, Andy Borg invited her to sing her song on the Austrian folk music television show Musikantenstadl.

On 2 January 2014, she released her debut album Wie guat, dass i a Madl bin,{{cite web|url=https://www.meinbezirk.at/gmuend/lokales/erste-cd-von-laura-kamhuber-wie-guat-dass-i-a-madl-bin-d796817.html|title=Erste CD von Laura Kamhuber – "Wie guat, dass i a Madl bin"|publisher=Meinbezirk.at|date=2013-12-25|accessdate=2018-03-09|language=German}} which contains 12 folk songs.{{cite web|url=https://www.tips.at/news/amaliendorf-aalfang/land-leute/369219-gesungen-hat-laura-immer-schon-gerne|title=Gesungen hat Laura immer schon gerne|publisher=Tips|date=2016|accessdate=2018-03-10}}

In the 2015/2016 season, with the song "Stay Tonight", she made the shortlist of the Facebook (online) selection for the wildcard place in the Austrian national selection final for the Eurovision Song Contest.{{cite web|url=http://www.noen.at/niederoesterreich/kultur-festivals/61-song-contest-kandidaten-des-oesterreichischen-vorentscheids/11.443.142|title=61.
