Career

=2014: ''The X Factor''=

Platt auditioned for The X Factor in 2014, and became the youngest solo contestant to reach the live finals.{{cite news|url=http://www.reveal.co.uk/showbiz-celeb-gossip/news/a601906/x-factors-lauren-platt-flashes-a-smile-heading-to-live-show-rehearsals.html|title=X Factor's Lauren Platt flashes a smile heading to live show rehearsals|last=Storey|first=Katie|date=7 October 2014|work=Reveal|publisher=Nat Mags|access-date=11 November 2014}} With the eliminations of Stephanie Nala and Chloe Jasmine in week two and Lola Saunders in week four, Platt became Cheryl's last remaining act in the competition. In the quarter-final, Platt was in the bottom two with Stereo Kicks, but advanced to the semi-final after Cowell sent the result to the deadlock and Stereo Kicks were eliminated as the act with the fewest public votes.{{cite news|url=https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/x-factor-2014-stereo-kicks-4723532|accessdate=29 February 2024|title=X Factor 2014: Stereo Kicks eliminated after facing Lauren Platt in the sing off|first1=Sophia|last1=Rahman|first2=Carl|last2=Greenwood|date=30 November 2014|work=Daily Mirror}} However, in the semi-final, Platt was in the bottom two with Andrea Faustini and was eliminated with only her mentor voting to send Platt through to the final, finishing in fourth place. After the series finished, voting statistics revealed that Platt had received more votes than Faustini. This meant that if there was not a Final Showdown, or if Walsh or Cowell voted to send Platt through to the final and the result to deadlock, Platt would've advanced to the final and Faustini would've been eliminated.{{Cite news|url=http://www.brentwoodgazette.co.uk/Revealed-Deadlock-seen-Lauren-Platt-X-Factor/story-25712003-detail/story.html|title=Revealed: Deadlock would have seen Lauren Platt in X Factor final|last=Woods|first=Alan|date=15 December 2014|work=Brentwood Gazette|access-date=27 February 2015|archive-date=27 February 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150227210852/http://www.brentwoodgazette.co.uk/Revealed-Deadlock-seen-Lauren-Platt-X-Factor/story-25712003-detail/story.html|url-status=dead}}
