Early life

Lauren States was born in the United States in 1956. Her mother was a successful nurse, and her father was one of the first black executives at the time, at Aetna Life and Casualty. States has said in interview that her parents were her first teachers in life, placing values in education, academic excellence, and confidence.{{Cite web |title=Lauren C. Life
