Plot summary
{{Expand section|date=January 2017}}
The movie revolves around the Bumstead family, who find themselves with an unexpected $100 surplus in their budget. In a gesture of generosity, both Blondie and Dagwood independently decide to donate the money to charity. However, their lack of communication leads to both of them unknowingly donating the same $100, leaving the family in a financial bind.
In an effort to help resolve the situation, Alvin, a family friend, submits a song written by one of Dagwood's relatives to a songwriting contest. The contest offers a cash prize, which could alleviate the Bumsteads' financial troubles. Meanwhile, Mr. Dithers, Dagwood's boss, becomes entangled in the situation when he realizes that the publicity surrounding the contest could help him secure a lucrative real estate deal.
Complicating matters further, Blondie overhears a fortune-teller's prediction that Dagwood will become involved with a brunette woman. This prediction causes Blondie to grow increasingly suspicious when Dagwood begins working closely with a brunette vocal coach to prepare for his performance of the song, which has become a finalist in the contest.
As Dagwood trains to sing the song on the radio, a series of misunderstandings and comedic mishaps unfold. The Bumsteads must navigate these challenges while maintaining their characteristic humor and charm, ultimately showcasing the resilience and love that define their family dynamic.
