Leptolobieae is a Neotropical, early-branching monophyletic clade of the flowering plant subfamily Faboideae or Papilionaceae that are mostly found in South America.
Description
This tribe is composed of five genera, two of which were originally included in the genus Acosmium (Guianodendron{{cite journal |vauthors=Schütz RR, ((de Azevedo Tozzi AMG)) | year = 2006 | title = Guianodendron, a new genus of Leguminosae from South America | journal = Novon | volume = 16 | issue = 1 | pages = 130–133 | doi = 10.3417/1055-3177(2006)16[129:GANGOL]2.0.CO;2 | s2cid = 86258758 | url = https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/part/37289 }} and Leptolobium{{cite journal |vauthors=Schütz RR, ((de Azevedo Tozzi AMG)) | year = 2008 | title = Reinstatement of the name Leptolobium Vogel (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae, Sophoreae) | journal = Taxon | volume = 57 | issue = 3 | pages = 980–984 | jstor = 27756725 | doi = 10.1002/tax.573027 }}) and one of which was originally assigned to the genus Diplotropis (Staminodianthus{{cite journal |vauthors=Cardoso D, de Lima HC, de Queiroz LP |year=2013 |title=Staminodianthus, a new neotropical Genistoid legume genus segregated from Diplotropis |journal=Phytotaxa |volume=110 |issue=1 |pages=1–16 |doi=10.11646/phytotaxa.110.1.1 }}). All of these genera were traditionally included in the tribe Sophoreae. However, recent molecular phylogenetic analyses resolved these five genera into a strongly-supported monophyletic clade, which warranted the reinstatement of the tribe Leptolobieae.{{cite journal |vauthors=Cardoso D, de Lima HC, Rodrigues RS, de Queiroz LP, Pennington RT, Lavin M | year = 2012 | title = The Bowdichia clade of Genistoid legumes: Phylogenetic analysis of combined molecular and morphological data and a recircumscription of Diplotropis | journal = Taxon | volume = 61 | issue = 5 | pages = 1074–1087 | doi = 10.1002/tax.615012 }} A potential morphological synapomorphy for the tribe is: "tufts of minute colleter-like glands in the axils of bract and bracteoles".{{cite journal |vauthors=Schütz RR, de Azevedo Tozzi AM | year = 2007 | title = Morphological analysis and re-examination of the taxonomic circumscription of Acosmium (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae, Sophoreae) | journal = Taxon | volume = 56 | issue = 2 | pages = 439–452 | jstor = 25065799 | doi = 10.1002/tax.562015 }}
