"Levii's Jeans" is a song by American singer Beyoncé and American rapper and singer Post Malone. It is the seventeenth track on her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter (2024), which was released on March 29, 2024, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. The song is named after the jeans of American clothing brand Levi Strauss & Co.{{Cite magazine |last=Iasimone |first=Ashley |date=March 30, 2024 |title=Beyoncé & Post Malone's 'Levii's Jeans' Puts Levi's in 'Cowboy Carter' Mode |url=https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/beyonce-post-malone-leviis-jeans-levis-reacts-1235645585/ |access-date=February 24, 2025 |magazine=Billboard |archive-date=January 9, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250109054806/https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/beyonce-post-malone-leviis-jeans-levis-reacts-1235645585/ |url-status=live }}{{Cite web |last=Dowling |first=Marcus K. |date=March 29, 2024 |title=Texans Beyoncé, Post Malone team up for sultry 'Levii's Jeans' on her new album |url=https://www.tennessean.com/story/entertainment/music/2024/03/29/texans-beyonce-post-malone-team-up-for-leviis-jeans/73139629007/ |access-date=February 24, 2025 |website=The Tennessean}}

Background and composition

Many interpreted the song as an ode to fashion retailer Levi Strauss & Co., as they were one of the only fashion brands to support Destiny's Child early in their career (as they struggled to be styled by high-end designers and brands when breaking into the music industry), appearing in a popular Levi's "Low Rise Jeans" advertising campaign.{{cite web |last=Vaughns |first=Victor |date=April 5, 2024 |title=Beyoncé's 'Levii's Jeans' Is an Ode to the Brand That Has Always Shown Her Love |url=https://www.ebony.com/beyonces-leviis-jeans-ode-brand-levis/ |access-date=December 24, 2024 |website=Ebony}}{{Cite news |last=Holman |first=Jordyn |date=October 2, 2024 |title=Beyoncé Released a Song and Levi's Saw Its Moment |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/02/style/beyonce-levis-women.html |access-date=February 24, 2025 |work=The New York Times |issn=0362-4331 |archive-date=October 9, 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20241009140047/https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/02/style/beyonce-levis-women.html |url-status=live }}

The song was written by the singers themself with Jay-Z and The-Dream, with the collaboration on the composition by Nile Rodgers.{{Cite magazine |last=II |first=Moises Mendez |date=March 23, 2024 |title=Beyoncé's Collaborators on Cowboy Carter |url=https://time.com/6961812/beyonce-cowboy-carter-collabs/ |access-date=February 24, 2025 |magazine=Time |archive-date=March 19, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250319235608/https://time.com/6961812/beyonce-cowboy-carter-collabs/ |url-status=live }} In a interview with The New York Times Malone explained that he and Beyoncé did not meet for writing the lyrics, receiving part of the demo of the song directly to his home in Utah from a Parkwood Entertainment representative, talking to Beyoncé by calls and texts.{{Cite news |last1=Coscarelli |first1=Joe |last2=Traff |first2=Thea |date=August 8, 2024 |title=How Post Malone Went Country (Carefully, With a Beer in His Hand) |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/08/arts/music/post-malone-f-1-trillion-country-music.html |access-date=February 25, 2024 |work=The New York Times |issn=0362-4331 |archive-date=January 31, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250131155010/https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/08/arts/music/post-malone-f-1-trillion-country-music.html |url-status=live }}{{Cite web |last=Dunworth |first=Liberty |date=August 13, 2024 |title=Post Malone says "it must suck" to be as famous as Taylor Swift or Beyoncé |url=https://www.nme.com/news/music/post-malone-says-it-must-suck-to-be-as-famous-as-taylor-swift-or-beyonce-3783395 |access-date=February 24, 2025 |website=NME}}

Critical reception

The song was considered among the best tracks on the album, as well as among the best collaborations by both singers.{{Cite magazine |last=Mier |first=Tomás |date=March 30, 2024 |title=Willie! Dolly! Tyler Chin of GQ appreciated "using the iconic dungarees as a metaphor for the love of her life" and that the association with the jeans "makes perfect sense for her to pay tribute to the preferred bottoms of old west gunslingers and modern-day ranch hands alik", finding the juxtaposition of Post Malone's "vibrato-wielding" to Beyoncé "sensual".{{Cite web |last=Chin |first=Tyler |date=March 29, 2024 |title=Beyoncé's "Levii's Jeans" Will Make You Want to Pull On Your Best 501s |url=https://www.gq.com/story/beyonce-cowboy-carter-levis |access-date=February 24, 2025 |website=GQ}} Ken Tucker of NPR Music stated that the collaboration is a "a deceptively simple tune " which "sounds like a great, lost, hit single from the '60s".{{Cite news |last=Tucker |first=Ken |date=April 3, 2024 |title=Beyoncé bucks the country industry establishment with sprawling 'Cowboy Carter' |url=https://www.npr.org/2024/04/03/1242518873/beyonce-bucks-the-country-industry-establishment-with-sprawling-cowboy-carter |access-date=February 24, 2025 |work=NPR Music |archive-date=January 26, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250126201750/https://www.npr.org/2024/04/03/1242518873/beyonce-bucks-the-country-industry-establishment-with-sprawling-cowboy-carter |url-status=live }} Spencer Kornhaber of The Atlantic wrothe that the song "sounds like the product of the modern Nashville music machine" with "sort of warm, sexy R&B", describing it as a "deliciously ironic fashion".{{Cite web |last=Kornhaber |first=Spencer |date=April 2, 2024 |title=This Is What an Album Needs to Do Right Now |url=https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2024/04/beyonce-cowboy-carter-review/677945/ |access-date=February 24, 2025 |website=The Atlantic |archive-date=March 4, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250304172756/https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2024/04/beyonce-cowboy-carter-review/677945/ |url-status=live }}
