Lex-XX is a compilation of remixes issued by Lex Records in 2021 and 2022 to mark the label's twentieth anniversary.{{Cite web|last=Kenneally |first=Cerys|date=2021-08-12|title=Thom Yorke delivers previously unheard remix of MF DOOM's "Gazzillion Ear"|url=https://www.thelineofbestfit.com/news/latest-news/thom-yorke-delivers-previously-unheard-remix-of-mf-dooms-gazzillion-ear/|website=The Line of Best Fit|language=en}} Lex-XX is the third compilation on the label, following Lexoleum (2001-2003) and Complex (2011-2012) each released approximately a decade apart.

Each track from Lex-XX has unique artwork created by Commission Studio and Faux Mec. Artwork for each Track shows a digitally rendered object on a grid. The artwork for the "Gazzillion Ear" remix shows an illustration of a "handful of crystals and USB stick that DOOM used to deliver demos to Lex".{{Cite web|last=Yeung|first=Vivian|date=2021-08-12|title=Thom Yorke has remixed the MF DOOM track Gazzillion Ear|url=https://crackmagazine.net/2021/08/thom-yorke-has-remixed-the-mf-doom-track-gazillion-ear/|website=Crack|language=en}}

Background

The first Lex-XX remix released was King Krule's remix of Eyedress' sleeper hit track "Jealous".{{Cite web|title=King Krule Remixes Eyedress' "Jealous": Listen – Pitchfork Magazine|website=Pitchfork |url=https://pitchfork.com/news/king-krule-remixes-eyedress-jealous-listen/|language=en}} NME described the remix as "dark" and "hypnotic" and quoted King Krule saying the remix was "Recorded in sweat, last summer, for a friend."{{Cite web|title=Hear King Krule's woozy new remix of Eyedress' 'Jealous' – NME|website=NME |url=https://www.nme.com/news/music/hear-king-krule-woozy-new-remix-eyedress-jealous-2899526 |access-date=2021-08-23|language=en}} A video for the remix was released, Alternative Press described it as "surreal" with "a retro video game vibe" where the musicians "set off on a ’90s Nintendo-style skateboard race through a bizarre Minecraft universe."{{Cite web|title=EYEDRESS RACES KING KRULE IN THE RETRO-INSPIRED "JEALOUS" REMIX VIDEO – Alternative Press|website=Alternative Press |url=https://www.altpress.com/news/eyedress-king-krule-jealous-remix/ |access-date=2021-08-23|language=en}}

Boards of Canada began work on their "Treat Em Right" remix in 2016 while working on another remix for Nevermen, but didn't complete it until after they were asked to contribute a remix to Lex-XX.{{Cite web|last=Strauss|first=Matthew|title=Boards of Canada Share New Remix of Nevermen's "Treat Em Right": Listen| url= https://pitchfork.com/news/boards-of-canada-share-new-remix-of-nevermen-treat-em-right-listen/ |website=Pitchfork.com|language=en}}{{Cite web|last=Pearls|first=Bill|date=2021-07-02|title=Listen to Boards of Canada's new remix of Nevermen's "Treat Em Right"|url=
