History
The village was first mentioned in 1180 as Lakesmunde, and means "mouth of the Laak (river)".{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/lexmond |title=Lexmond - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=26 March 2022 |language=nl}} Lexmond started as a dike village along the Lek River. In 1277, the Laak was dammed and a little harbour was constructed. The Dutch Reformed Church dates from the 14th century and was extensively restored between 1954 and 1958.{{cite book|url=https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu10_01/sten009monu10_01_0089.php |title=Lexmond |author=Ronald Stenvert and Sabine Broekhoven |year=2004 |publisher=Waanders |location=Zwolle |isbn=90-400-9034-3 |language=nl|access-date=26 March 2022}} In 1840, it was home to 700 people.{{cite web|url=https://www.plaatsengids.nl/lexmond |title=Lexmond |website=Plaatsengids |access-date=26 March 2022 |language=nl}}
