Founding
The Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) was founded on 12 January 2019 by Lenox Shuman, a former toshao (chief) of St. Cuthbert's Mission. Although the party received most support from indigenous voters, it aimed to be inclusive of all Guyanese. In his founding address, Shuman said that the LJP would oppose racial politics and press for more effective government services.{{Cite web|date=2019-01-10|title=Shuman-fronted Liberty and Justice Party launch for Georgetown Club|url=https://www.stabroeknews.com/2019/01/10/news/guyana/shuman-fronted-liberty-and-justice-party-launch-for-georgetown-club/|access-date=2021-08-22|website=Stabroek News|language=en-US}}{{Cite web|date=2019-01-14|title=Shuman pushes inclusive approach for governance with his Liberty and Justice Party|url=https://newssourcegy.com/news/shuman-pushes-inclusive-approach-for-governance-with-his-liberty-and-justice-party/|access-date=2021-08-31|website=News Source Guyana|language=en-US}}
