History
In June 2013, ch-aviation reported that Libyan Wings intended to start operations in November of that year.{{cite news | url=http://ch-aviation.com/portal/news/19602-libyan-wings-set-for-november-2013-launch | title=Libyan Wings set for November 2013 launch | work=ch-aviation | date=12 June 2013 | accessdate=4 December 2016}} In November 2013, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for three Airbus A350-900s and four Airbus A320neos; the anticipated launch date was shifted to early 2014.{{cite press release | url=http://www.airbus.com/presscentre/pressreleases/press-release-detail/detail/libyan-wings-orders-three-a350-xwbs-and-four-a320neos/ | title=Libyan Wings orders three A350 XWBs and four A320neo's | publisher=Airbus | date=18 November 2013 | accessdate=4 December 2016}} In May 2014, Libyan Wings signed to lease two Airbus A319s from a Dubai-based company,{{cite press release | url=http://www.dubaiaerospace.com/index.php/latest-news-npr-org/87-21-may-2014-dae-signs-long-term-lease-agreements-with-libyan-wings | title=DAE Signs Long-term Lease Agreements with Libyan Wings | publisher=Dubai Aerospace Enterprise | date=21 May 2014 | accessdate=5 December 2016}} planning to begin flights later in the year.{{cite news | url=http://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/33554-libyan-wings-defers-delivery-of-maiden-a319s | title=Libyan Wings defers delivery of maiden A319s | work=ch-aviation | date=12 December 2014 | accessdate=5 December 2016}} However, because of the deteriorating political situation in Libya, the airline had to delay its launch further. While it waited for conditions to improve, Libyan Wings retained its Airbus A319s rather than return them to the lessor, even though this action was costly.{{cite news | url=http://www.ch-aviation.com/blog/2016/10/23/ch-aviation-interview-edgardo-badiali-ceo-libyan-wings/ | title=ch-aviation interview: Edgardo Badiali, CEO Libyan Wings | work=ch-aviation | date=23 October 2016 | accessdate=4 December 2016 | author=Oldorf, Max}}
In order to obtain its air operator's certificate, the airline had to conduct a proving flight with passengers. Because Tripoli was still unsafe, Libyan Wings operated its proving flight in Turkey with Libyan Civil Aviation Authority officials on board.
