Origin of name

The parish may have been named for its proximity to York County, as the traditional English counties of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire shared a border.{{cite book |last1=Ganong |first1=William F. |title=A Monograph of the Place-Nomenclature of the Province of New Brunswick |date=1896 |publisher=Royal Society of Canada |page=245 |url=https://www.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.12511 |access-date=17 March 2021}}

Another possible source is Lincoln, Massachusetts, former home of Captain Benjamin Glasier whose family settled there in March 1776 as the American War of Independence was beginning.{{cite book| last1=Ganong| first1=William F.|url=https://www.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.97004/30| access-date=12 April 2021| title=Additions and Corrections to Monographs on the Place-Nomenclature, Cartography, Historic Sites, Boundaries and Settlement-origins of the Province of New Brunswick| date=1906| publisher=Royal Society of Canada| page=30}}

History

Lincoln was erected in 1786 as one of Sunbury County's original parishes.{{cite book| url=https://www.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.9_00913_1 | access-date=20 March 2021| title=Acts of the General Assembly of His Majesty's Province of New-Brunswick, passed in the year 1786.| date=1786| publisher=Government of New Brunswick| location=Saint John, New Brunswick| pages=3–12| chapter=26 Geo.
