Power plants
The table below gives a detailed overview of the fossil-fuel based power plants operating in Ireland in 2017. The data is publicly available and updated annually by the Irish Transmission System Operator (TSO), EirGrid, in its Generation Adequacy Report.{{Cite web |date=2017 |title=All-Island Generation Capacity Statement: 2017-2026 |url=https://www.eirgridgroup.com/site-files/library/EirGrid/4289_EirGrid_GenCapStatement_v9_web.pdf |website=eirgridgroup.com |access-date=2 September 2023 |archive-date=2 September 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230902200422/https://www.eirgridgroup.com/site-files/library/EirGrid/4289_EirGrid_GenCapStatement_v9_web.pdf |url-status=live }} In total there was 6609 MW of power plants available in 2017.

Former power stations
New power stations were commissioned in the 1950s to meet the increasing demand for electricity. These included the following.{{Cite book|last=Garrett|first=Frederick C.|title=Garcke's Manual of Electricity Supply Vol. 56|publisher=Electrical Press|year=1959|location=London|pages=C-44 to C-49}}
