Lites is a discontinued Unix-like operating system, based on 4.4BSD and the Mach microkernel. Specifically, Lites is a multi-threaded server and emulation library that provided unix functions to a Mach-based system. At the time of its release, Lites provided binary compatibility with 4.4BSD, NetBSD, FreeBSD, 386BSD, UX (4.3BSD), and Linux.{{Cite web |last=Helander |first=Johannes |date= |url=http://www.cs.hut.fi/~jvh/lites-1.0-announcement.html |title=Lites 1.0 Announcement |website=Helsinki University of Technology |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/19970716001117/http://www.cs.hut.fi/~jvh/lites-1.0-announcement.html |archive-date=16 July 1997 |access-date=6 November 2021}}
