Swedish, Norwegian and Danish teenagers and young adults often use {{Lang|sv|lillördag}}, {{Lang|da|lille lørdag}} as slang for Wednesday ({{Lang|mis|onsdag}} in Swedish and Norwegian).{{Cite web|last=Woolsey|first=Barbara|title=Lillördag: Sweden's workers de-stress with 'Little Saturday'|url=https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20210129-lillrdag-swedens-workers-destress-with-little-saturday|access-date=2022-02-10|website=www.bbc.com|date=3 February 2021 |language=en}}{{Cite web |title=Det Norske Akademis ordbok |url=https://naob.no/ordbok/lillel%C3%B8rdag |access-date=2023-05-30 |website=naob.no |language=Norwegian}}{{Cite book |last=Tryti |first=Tone |title=Norsk slangordbok |date=2009 |publisher=Kunnskapsforl |isbn=978-82-573-1980-9 |location=Oslo |pages=222–223 |language=nb}} In the UK and Ireland, "Little Saturday Wednesdays" offer student discounts in some bars, and the Wednesday as Little Saturday is in some places seen as the students night out, although it is not as widespread as in other countries.

In Sweden, Norway and Denmark, the tradition comes from 'the maid's Saturday' {{Langx|sv|piglördag}}, which fell on a Wednesday. That was the day when the maid had her day off, as she normally did not have any time off on Saturdays.{{Cite web|title=Onsdag er Odins dag|url=https://www.timeanddate.no/ukedag/onsdag|access-date=2022-02-10|website=www.timeanddate.no|language=no}}{{Cite web|date=2021-11-10|title=Swedish word of the day: onsdag|url=https://www.thelocal.se/20211110/swedish-word-of-the-day-onsdag/|access-date=2022-02-10|website=The Local Sweden|language=en-US}}

"Little Saturday" referring to Wednesday is also a well known concept amongst South Africans, young and old and is used to justify a mid-week tipple when the week seems too long.
