Listed by Cadw (Reference Number 1225) and thought to have been built between 1804 and 1808,[http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/wa-1225-canal-museum-wharf-hill-llangollen British Listed Buildings], accessed 1 December 2014 it was originally a single storey warehouse but was later heightened to two stories and extended in red brick.

Horse drawn boat trips operate from the wharf and there is a tea room and gift shop. There was a museum, the Canal Exhibition Centre, in the building from 1974, but by 2000 the exhibition had been moved into the Llangollen Motor Museum.{{Cite web|url=https://www.horsedrawnboats.co.uk/|title=Llangollen Wharf|access-date=9 June 2024}}{{cite news|url=https://issuu.com/mortons-digital/docs/tptnov18-preview|newspaper=Towpath Talk|date=November 2018|page=4|title=One of the last links with pre-war hire boating}}{{cite web|url=http://www.horsedrawnboats.co.uk/|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20001204145500/http://www.horsedrawnboats.co.uk/|title=Llangollen Wharf - canal boats and narrowboat trips on Llangollen canal - Llangollen, North Wales|archive-date=4 December 2000}}
