History
Prior to the band's formation, its eventual lead singer, Matt Lowell, began writing songs in New York City with the intention of forming a band. He later moved to Los Angeles where he met bassist and keyboardist, Crisanta Baker. He played her a demo for the song, "Loveless", and, soon after, she became the second member of the band. Guitarist Samuel Stewart - who is the son of David A. Stewart of Eurythmics and Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama - joined shortly after. The band soon began practicing in Lowell's backyard shed.{{cite news | title =From Demo To Debut, How A Song Brought Lo Moon Together| publisher =NPR| date =January 6, 2018 | url =https://www.npr.org/2018/01/06/573570837/from-demo-to-debut-how-a-song-brought-lo-moon-together| access-date =January 30, 2018}}{{cite news | title =Lo Moon Shares Its Origin Story| publisher =NPR| date =November 29, 2017| url =https://www.npr.org/2017/11/29/565789969/lo-moon-shares-its-origin-story| access-date =January 30, 2018}} The "Loveless" demo, which Lowell had begun writing in 2012,{{cite news | title =Who the Hell Are Lo Moon?| publisher =Noisey| date =February 1, 2017| url =https://www.vice.com/en/article/lo-moon-interview/| access-date =January 30, 2018}} attracted the attention of Columbia Records and spurred the label to sign Lo Moon.{{cite news | last=Brown| first=August| title =Building a mystery: L.A. electronic band Lo Moon seemingly came out of nowhere| newspaper =Los Angeles Times| date =January 30, 2017| url =http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/la-et-ms-lo-moon-20170130-story.html| access-date =January 30, 2018}} Sterling Laws later joined as their touring drummer.
