Within the politics of Ireland, the Local Appointments Commission was created by the Local Authorities (Officers and Employees) Act 1926,{{Cite web|url=http://archive.oireachtas.ie/1984/REPORT_07021984_1.html|title = Committee Reports::Interim Report No. 01 - Recruitment by the Civil Service Commission and the Local Appointments Commission::07 February, 1984::Report}} as enacted by the government of W. T. Cosgrave, to counter allegations of favouritism at local levels in government in Ireland.
