The recreation ground opened in 1932, and includes a variety of recreational facilities, including tennis courts and a small theatre. In 1938, the Minister of Transport opened a 'Model Traffic Area', a scaled-down road network where children can use model cars or cycles. The Model Traffic Area was designed to teach children about road traffic in a safe environment.{{cite web|url=http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/model-traffic-area.html|title=Model Traffic Area|author=Diamond Geezer|date=February 2015|access-date=12 April 2016}}{{cite web|url=http://lordshiprec.org.uk/what-to-see-do/model-traffic-area/|title=Model Traffic Area|author=Friends of Lordship Rec|access-date=12 April 2016}}
