Career

During her time in university, Wæver worked as one of the first female continuity announcers in Danmarks Radio (DR).

She is best known for presenting the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen in 1964, a position for which she says she was chosen over her peers because of her willingness to do it.{{Cite web|url=http://esctoday.com/78898/eurovision-1964-lotte-waever-talks-hosting-50-years-ago/|title=Eurovision 1964: Lotte Wæver talks about hosting 50 years ago|last=Scott|first=Robin|date=21 March 2014|website=esctoday.com|language=en-US|access-date=8 May 2016}}

The contest was famously overshadowed by a political protest from a man who trespassed onto the stage holding a banner reading "Boycott Franco and Salazar". In an interview in 2001, Wæver revealed that while she was visibly shaken by the protester, the incident did not affect her in the slightest because, as the presenter of the contest, when the light above the camera was on, her attention was focused on the camera.{{Cite web|url=https://www.fyens.dk/kultur/Dengang-i-1964/artikel/313166|title=Dengang i 1964|last=Hermann|first=Henrik|date=28 April 2001|website=fyens.dk|publisher=Fyens.dk|language=da-DK|trans-title=Back in 1964|access-date=8 May 2016}}

Commenting on the significance of presenting the largest event hosted by DR at the time, she was nostalgic when thinking how primitive and technologically innocent it was, adding that the concert was "much bigger than she had imagined. It is something else now."

Wæver's first acting role was as Ellen in the 1969 film Midt i en jazztid, which represented Denmark at that year's Moscow International Film Festival.{{Cite web|url=http://www.danskefilm.dk/index2.html|title=Lotte Wæver|website=danskefilm.dk|publisher=Den danske film database|access-date=8 May 2016}}

She also contributed to the 1977 film Aftenlandet, which represented Denmark at that year's Moscow International Film Festival.{{Cite web|url=https://www.dfi.dk/faktaomfilm/person/da/355.aspx?id=355|title=Lotte Wæver|website=dfi.dk|publisher=Det danske filminstitut|language=da-DK|access-date=8 May 2016}}

Later life

Wæver left DR in 1971 to become a high school teacher.{{Cite web|url=http://www.dr.dk/melodigrandprix/Nyheder/2014/03/20165829.htm|title=Lotte var Danmarks første Eurovision-vært: "Det var nok mit bungy-jump"|last=Kjempff|first=Marie|date=20 March 2014|website=dr.dk|publisher=Danmarks Radio|language=da-DK|trans-title=Lotte was Denmark's first Eurovision host: this was like my bungee-jump|access-date=8 May 2016}}

In an interview with DR in 2014 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Eurovision Song Contest held in Copenhagen, she revealed that she does not watch the Eurovision Song Contest, except for the end of the final to hear the winning song, because of what she believes is its pride and monstrosity.
