She earned a PhD from the ANU in 2001 with a thesis entitled The biology, evolution and systematics of the Gall-inducing scale insect Apiomorpha Rübsaamen (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Coccoidea){{cite Q|Q104179497}}
