Background
On the announcement of the tour the band stated that, over the past few years, they had been inspired by the fans who attended their shows in 2019 and 2021. In the same statement they stated that they "had a blast being a part of the 2021 Wimmer Festivals when they played two nights in one city". Starting in April 2023, Metallica is set to visit twenty-two cities around the world and playing two nights in each city, with each being part of a "No Repeat Weekend" show which will feature two set lists which include deep cuts from the band's catalog.{{cite web |title=Metallica Announces Massive 'M72' World Tour For 2023 + 2024 |url=https://blabbermouth.net/news/metallica-announces-massive-m72-world-tour-for-2023-2024 |website=Blabbermouth.net |access-date=23 December 2022 |language=en |date=28 November 2022 |archive-date=November 28, 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221128153142/https://blabbermouth.net/news/metallica-announces-massive-m72-world-tour-for-2023-2024 |url-status=live }}{{cite magazine |last1=Olivier |first1=Bobby |title=Metallica's 2023 M72 Tour: The Dream Setlist |url=https://www.billboard.com/lists/metallicas-m72-tour-dream-setlist/fight-fire-with-fire/ |magazine=Billboard |access-date=20 April 2023 |date=7 April 2023 |archive-date=April 20, 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230420023507/https://www.billboard.com/lists/metallicas-m72-tour-dream-setlist/fight-fire-with-fire/ |url-status=live }} Two day tickets for each show went on sale on December 2, 2022,{{cite web |title=Metallica bring M72 tour to Olympic Stadium for two nights in August |url=https://montrealgazette.com/entertainment/metallica-bring-m72-tour-to-olympic-stadium-for-two-nights-in-august |website=Montreal Gazette |access-date=April 20, 2023 |date=November 28, 2022 |archive-date=November 28, 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221128192213/https://montrealgazette.com/entertainment/metallica-bring-m72-tour-to-olympic-stadium-for-two-nights-in-august |url-status=live }} with single tickets being later made available to the general public on January 20, 2023.{{cite web |last1=Robinson |first1=Ellie |title=Single-day tickets announced for Metallica's 'M72' world tour |url=https://www.nme.com/news/music/single-day-tickets-announced-for-metallicas-m72-world-tour-3380696 |website=NME |access-date=April 20, 2023 |date=January 14, 2023 |archive-date=January 14, 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230114145605/https://www.nme.com/news/music/single-day-tickets-announced-for-metallicas-m72-world-tour-3380696 |url-status=live }}
