History

She was built in 1973 by Wärtsilä Helsinki Shipyard, Finland for Royal Viking Line as Royal Viking Sea, and has also sailed under the names Royal Odyssey for Royal Cruise Line, Norwegian Star for Norwegian Cruise Line and Norwegian Capricorn Line, {{cite web |date=15 June 2024 |title=Norwegian Capricorn Line|url= https://chrisframe.com.au/post/754344818126323712/history-of-norwegian-capricorn-line |access-date=24 June 2024 |website=Chris Frame Official}} and Crown. She was the second Albatros for Phoenix Reisen as she was the replacement of the original {{SS|Albatros}}.

Albatros was also known for her {{ship||Queen Elizabeth 2||2}}-esque funnel.

In October 2020 Albatros was sold as a hotel vessel for the Pick Albatros Group in the Middle East, which operates some 15 hotels and resorts in Hurghada region.{{cite web|url=https://www.phoenixreisen.com/web2/img/PhoenixReisen_MSAlbatros.pdf|title=MS Albatros verlässt die Phoenix Reisen Flotte|date=2020-10-18|accessdate=2024-12-23|language=german}}

However, the project was never initiated, and the ship stayed at Hurghada until sold in 2021 for scrap, after a stop in Jeddah. She was beached in Alang, India, on 27 July 2021.{{cite web |date=15 July 2021 |title=Albatros Sold For Scrap As Hotel Plans Fail |url=https://www.cruiseharbournews.com/albatrosscrap.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210716184522/http://cruiseharbournews.com/albatrosscrap.html |url-status=usurped |archive-date=16 July 2021 |access-date=14 August 2021 |website=cruiseharbournews}} Scrapping on Albatros started on 17 November 2021. According to the NGO Robin des Bois, the Hotel Ship project was a trick to export the ship from Germany to India for scrapping.{{cite web |date=2021-11-23 |title=Bremerhaven, export port of cruise ships towards Alang |url=https://robindesbois.org/wp-content/uploads/shipbreaking64.pdf |accessdate=2022-05-27}}
