Macro BIM

Macro BIM (Building Information Model) is a building information model, assembled of higher level building elements, used for macro level analysis including visualization, spatial validation, cost modeling/estimating, phasing/sequencing, energy performance, and risk.{{cite web |title=Macro BIM: Program development, coordination and Support |url=http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/124829.pdf |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090723024038/http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/124829.pdf |url-status=dead |archive-date=2009-07-23 |website=Industry Advisory Panel |publisher=(via Wayback machine)}}

Macro models are intended to be built quickly, facilitating rapid analysis of multiple concepts or ideas prior to launching into a more detailed in depth study of a preferred concept using "Micro BIM" applications.Carroll, Stewart (2008) [https://web.archive.org/web/20110424130040/http://constructor.agc.org/mag/2008_11-12/dept/0811-79.asp A Well-Kept Secret: BIM in Preconstruction Wins Clients], Constructor.

Macro BIM authoring applications often utilize parametric variables and properties as well as inferencing capabilities to quickly build enough relevant data to facilitate analysis.Khemlani, Lachmi (2008) [https://web.archive.org/web/20101026211708/http://aecbytes.com/review/2008/DProfiler.html DProfiler: A "Macro" BIM Solution], AECbytes
