After retiring from competitions Solberg became a police officer. He was one of the officers responsible for the miscarriage of justice against Fritz Moen, by adjusting a murder victim's time of death in order to dismiss Moen's alibi.[http://www.adressa.no/nyheter/trondheim/article1033019.ece Adresseavisen – Walks free after miscarriage of justice (norwegian)]. He later admitted to wrongdoing, retired from the police force, and worked in the insurance industry.[https://web.archive.org/web/20200417112005/https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/so/magnar-solberg-1.html Magnar Solberg]. sports-reference.com
