Controversy

The School had recently been in the news for making a U-turn on its decision to be a co-education School. The School was opened for boys in 2012 and in 2015 it backtracked on its decision and decided to become a Girls' School again. The decision attracted a lot of criticism from the parents of the boys already studying in the school. Parents protested in front of the School for its decision and demanded a rollback on 7 August 2015. The School was temporarily closed due to parents' agitation on 8 August 2015.{{cite news|url=http://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/mahadevi-birla-world-academy-temporarily-closed-down-115090900011_1.html|title=Mahadevi Birla World Academy temporarily closed down|accessdate=9 September 2015|issue=Kolkata|newspaper=Business Standard|date=9 September 2015}}{{cite news|url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/Parents-protest-schools-U-turn-on-co-education/articleshow/48863443.cms|title=Mahadevi Birla World Academy temporarily closed down|accessdate=9 September 2015|issue=Kolkata|newspaper=Times Of India|date=8 September 2015}}

The school decided to continue as a co-ed in the future. Admission notice for 2016-2017 was given accordingly.{{Cite web|title = Mahadevi Birla to remain co-ed|url = http://www.telegraphindia.com/1150921/jsp/calcutta/story_43665.jsp#.VgJImfmUeSo|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20150923173855/http://www.telegraphindia.com/1150921/jsp/calcutta/story_43665.jsp#.VgJImfmUeSo|url-status = dead|archive-date = 23 September 2015|accessdate = 2015-09-23}}
