Mahendravarman ({{langx|km|មហេន្ទ្រវរ្ម័ន}}, vraḥ kamrateṅ añ Śrī Mahendravarmma in Pre-Angkorian {{langx|km|វ្រះកម្រតេង៑អញ៑ឝ្រីមហេន្ទ្រវម៌្ម}}; also titled Citrasena, {{langx|km|ចិត្រសេន}} {{lang-zh|s=摩訶陀羅跋摩|p= Móhètuóluóbamó}}) was also called Protégé of the Great Indra.

Biography

Mahendravarman was a king of the kingdom of Chenla, modern day Cambodia, during the 6th century. Chenla was the direct predecessor of the Khmer empire. Citrasena was a close relative of Bhavavarman I ({{langx|km|ភវវរ្ម័នទី១}}), whom he joined to conquer the Kingdom of Funan, and whom he succeeded as king and adopting the name Mahendravarman.Higham, C., 2014, Early Mainland Southeast Asia, Bangkok: River Books Co., Ltd., {{ISBN|9786167339443}}{{cite book|last= Coedès|first= George|authorlink= George Coedès|editor= Walter F. Vella|others= trans.Susan Brown Cowing|title= The Indianized States of Southeast Asia|year= 1968|publisher= University of Hawaii Press|isbn= 978-0-8248-0368-1}} After Bhavavarman's death, Mahendravarman took residence in the capital at Sambor Prei Kuk while the same time Hiraṇyavarman ({{langx|km|ហិរណ្យវរ្ម័ន}}) was ruling Cambodia.

Mahendravarman sent an ambassador to Champa to "ensure friendship between the two countries."{{rp|326}}{{rp|69}}

After the death of Mahendravarman, his son Īśānavarman{{rp|69}} ({{langx|km|ឦសានវរ្ម័ន}}, Pre-Angkorian {{langx|km|ឦឝានវម៌្ម}}) had taken the control of the kingdom, where his father ruled for several years. He ruled the kingdom until 628 before dying in 639.
