Malaa is a French electronic dance music DJ and producer, who is signed to Tchami's label Confession. He broke onto the electronic music scene through his single "Notorious", which was the second release on Confession.{{Cite web |url=http://www.dancingastronaut.com/2015/11/malaa-notorious-original-mix-free-download/ |title=Malaa debuts on Tchami's new label with 'Notorious' |last=McCarthy |first=Will |date=2015-11-24 |website=Dancing Astronaut |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170827030536/http://www.dancingastronaut.com/2015/11/malaa-notorious-original-mix-free-download/ |archive-date=2017-08-27 |url-status=live |accessdate=2018-03-13}} His identity is unknown as he appears in public as a balaclava-wearing man.{{Cite web |url=https://www.vice.com/en/article/who-is-malaa-dj-snake-tchami-and-mercer-are-somehow-involved/ |title=Who is Malaa? Identity
Malaa's identity is unknown. It is strongly suggested that Malaa consists of a duo with DJs DJ Snake and Tchami, as they are credited often on each other's track productions and are connected to the project via remixes.{{Cite web|url=http://www.dancingastronaut.com/2016/01/truth-behind-malaa-tchami-dj-snakes-enigmatic-side-project/ |title=Uncovering Malaa: Tchami and DJ Snake's enigmatic side project? - Dancing Astronaut |date=2016-01-07 |website=Dancing Astronaut |accessdate=2018-02-18}}{{cite web|url=https://www.youredm.com/2016/01/07/the-curious-case-of-malaa-dj-snake-and-tchamis-new-alias/ |title=The Curious Case of Malaa, Tchami's New Prodigy? |website=YourEDM |date=8 January 2016 |accessdate=2018-03-18 |quote=It’s no secret that Tchami and DJ Snake have worked side-by-side on some of their biggest singles. ASCAP has confirmed that the two share writing credits on “Get Low,” “After Life” and more.}} It is also speculated that French DJ Mercer is involved in Malaa, since the same management team is shared between the three artists. Through a Reddit post made on the topic, Redditors discovered a tweet on Twitter where a user wrote "cant believe im opening for dj snake + tchami's side project next thursday", while linking to a SoundCloud mix by Malaa. The tweet was then favourited by DJ Snake's Twitter account, which hints his participation on the topic. French DJ Sebastien Benett is also speculated to be Malaa, due to the quick removal of a Facebook comment from Mercer's profile which stated that Malaa was a nickname of Benett and that the last posts by Benett on SoundCloud coincide with the first appearances of Malaa.{{Cite web |url=https://bythewavs.com/mystery-malaa-continues/ |title=The Mystery of Malaa Continues |last=Harvey |first=Chez |date=2016-01-27 |website=By The Wavs |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170104170655/https://bythewavs.com/mystery-malaa-continues/ |archive-date=2017-01-04 |url-status=live |accessdate=2018-04-03}} Both have also been seen individually smoking cigarettes frequently. Benett was also part of the group of 5 dj's called 'Reepublic' before joining the Malaa project.
