On 19 May 2024, a helicopter carrying Rahmati — alongside President Ebrahim Raisi, foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and representative of the Supreme Leader in East Azerbaijan Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashemcrashed in Varazqan in East Azerbaijan province.
