Manasi River
{{short description|River in China}}
The Manasi River ({{zh|s=玛纳斯河|t=瑪納斯河|p=Mǎnàsī hé}}, {{langx|ug|ماناس دەرياسى}} also called Manas) is in the south of Dzungarian Basin, Xinjiang, China.
Historically, the Manas River crossed a large section of the Gurbantünggüt Desert, terminating in Lake Manas ({{coord|45|48|00|N|85|56|00|E|display=inline|region:CN-62_type:landmark}}); its length then was about {{convert|450|km|abbr=on}} long. However, due to the water diversion for irrigation and other needs, the Manas River's water has not reached the eponymous lake since the 1960s, and the lake has gone dry.[http://cdm.unfccc.int/UserManagement/FileStorage/GIZSYQVOM3D49RL1NH8AJTPKEC7B52 PetroChina Xinjiang Oilfield Emission Reduction and Afforestation Project], p.5Weiming Cheng, Chenghu Zhou, Jianxin Li, [http://www.isprs.org/proceedings/2005/ISRSE/html/papers/980.pdf Research on evolution of Manas Lakes in Xinjiang over last 50 years]. (2005).
Numerous reservoirs are constructed on the Manas River and connected streams in the Shihezi City-Manas County area, including the Jiahezi Reservoir ({{zh|labels=no|c=夹河子水库|p=Jiāhézi shuǐkù}}) with the dam at {{coord|44|27|00|N|86|7|15|E|region:CN-62_type:landmark}}. The reservoirs and canals form an extensive irrigation system in the area.
