RAF Manby was situated near the village between 1938 and 1974.{{cite PastScape |mnumber=1402569 |mname=Manby Airfield |access-date=19 March 2013}} Houses in Manby were built for RAF personnel, with village streets named after aeroplanes. In 1977 East Lindsey District Council bought the former RAF College of Air Warfare building, known as Tedder Hall, and converted it to become the council's headquarters.{{cite news |title=Historic Occasion |url=https://www.findmypast.co.uk/search-newspapers |access-date=26 November 2023 |work=Lincolnshire Echo |date=10 October 1977 |location=Lincoln |page=4}} The council remained based at Manby until 2023 when it moved to Horncastle.{{cite news |last1=Jaines |first1=Daniel |title=East Lindsey District Council move to new HQ set for January |url=https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2022/11/east-lindsey-district-council-move-to-new-hq-set-for-january/ |access-date=25 November 2023 |work=The Lincolnite |date=3 November 2022}}
In the late 1980s the entire pre war Married Quarter estate Carlton Park was sold to a Roger Byron-Collins company. The airfield was sold for commercial use. It is now a business park, and the former airfield has been returned to agriculture with an intensive cattle fattening plant. Regents Academy was also based at the park until 2017.
In 2008 East Lindsey District Council proposed that the site be a possible location for an eco-town of 5,000 homes; it appeared on a government shortlist of ten such sites. After protests from residents the council voted to withdraw the plan.{{cite news | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lincolnshire/7474697.stm | title=Council rejects eco town scheme | work=BBC News | date=26 June 2008 | access-date=18 June 2009}}{{cite news | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/7484273.stm | title=Eco-town 'would increase car use' | work=BBC News | date=1 July 2008| access-date=18 June 2009}}
The remaining Officers' Mess building has been the subject of many arson attacks over the years as it sits in a derelict state.{{cite web |last=Cox |first=Robert |date=23 January 2025 |title=7 Abandoned RAF Bases in the UK |url=https://retford.info/7-abandoned-raf-bases-in-the-uk/ |access-date=6 February 2025 |website=Retford Information }}
