Name
Mount Mangart was attested in historical sources in 1617 as Monhart. The name is of German origin, derived from the personal name Mainhart (from Old High German Maganhard). In addition to serving as the name of the mountain, this German name has also developed into Slovene surnames such as Manhart and Menart.{{cite book |last1=Snoj |first1=Marko |title=Etimološki slovar slovenskih zemljepisnih imen |date=2009 |publisher=Modrijan |location=Ljubljana |page=252}}
