Mantric is a Norwegian progressive metal band from Oslo that formed in 2007.
Background
When the last remaining founding members of Extol, vocalist Peter Espevoll and drummer David Husvik, decided to end the band in 2007, the remaining members, John Mjaaland, Tor Glidje, Ole Sveen, who had previously played together in Lengsel and Ganglion, decided to continue the already in-progress songwriting process and change the name of the band to Mantric.{{cite web|url=http://www.metalsucks.net/2010/07/14/exclusive-interview-with-mantrics-ole-halvard-sveen-ex-extol/|title=Exclusive Interview with Mantric's Ole Halvard Sveen (ex-Extol)|publisher=MetalSucks|date=14 July 2010}}{{cite web|url=http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/extol-members-launch-new-band-mantric/|title=EXTOL Members Launch New Band MANTRIC|publisher=Blabbermouth.net|date=12 August 2007|accessdate=17 June 2016}} Husvik was also a part of the first lineup, but eventually left.
The band was signed to Prosthetic Records and released their debut album, The Descent in 2010. The album has received generally positive reviews including 8 out of 10 scores from both Metal Hammer and Decibel. Mantric has since played a handful of shows and festivals in Europe and are currently demoing material for their next album.{{cite web|url=https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=156774481021643&id=247698051255|title=Mantric|publisher=Facebook}} In 2015, the band released a new song and announced two releases, an EP and a Studio album.{{cite web|url=http://www.metalsucks.net/2015/06/04/mantric-return-with-new-song-ep-and-album/|title=Mantric Return with New Song, EP and Album|publisher=MetalSucks|first=Vince|last=Neilstein|date=4 June 2015|accessdate=16 June 2016}} In 2015, the band released their sophomore album entitled, Sin, which was well received.{{citation needed|date=June 2016}} The album was said to be of various sounds, mainly progressive metal, but also post metal, death metal,{{cite web|url=http://www.metalunderground.com/reviews/details.cfm?releaseid=16770|title=Mantric – Sin|publisher=Metal Underground|author=xFiruath|date=15 February 2016|accessdate=17 June 2016}} and black metal.
