Marita Mathijsen

Marita Theodora Catharina Mathijsen-Verkooijen (born 8 August 1944 in Belfeld) is professor of modern Dutch literature at the University of Amsterdam, with her speciality{{cite news|url=http://www.volkskrant.nl/vk/nl/2676/Cultuur/article/detail/831754/2007/01/08/Eredoctoraat-UvA-bekroning-voor-Mulisch.dhtml|title=Eredoctoraat UvA bekroning voor Mulisch|date=6 January 2007|work=De Volkskrant|language=Dutch|accessdate=19 May 2011}} as the literature of the nineteenth century in the Netherlands.

Mathijsen graduated with work on the correspondence between Jacob van Lennep and {{Interlanguage link multi|Gerrit van de Linde|nl|3=De Schoolmeester}} (also known as "De schoolmeester" - the schoolmaster). She is also editor in chief of the periodical De Negentiende Eeuw (The Nineteenth Century) and has many editions on the nineteenth-century Dutch classics. Apart from that she wrote various books on that period.
