Sexual assault comments

On September 28, 2018, Hagedorn joked about sexual assault reporting on Twitter, stating "Two ladies have come forward describing how Kavanaugh actually intentionally flashed them with his genitalia uncovered while trying to urinate on them! Regardless that he was a newborn these 2 nurses have been scared & need an FBI investigation!" The tweet was met with backlash and criticism. In response, Hagedorn tweeted "What was meant as a bad joke was insensitive to many. I apologize. It was meant to make us ask ourselves, 'When is it too late to speak up?' Sexual trauma is serious and real, what we are witnessing is sending the message that it's OK not to speak up! It's not!"{{cite news |last1=Carmel |first1=Margaret |title=Idaho Veteran Services Division head Marv Hagedorn criticized for Kavanaugh tweets |url=https://www.idahopress.com/news/local/idaho-veteran-services-division-head-marv-hagedorn-criticized-for-kavanaugh/article_5c8c453a-0fd8-5090-969a-c4df2efd6d0d.html |accessdate=3 October 2018 |publisher=Idaho Press |date=October 1, 2018}} Hagedorn had to complete mandatory HR training following the incident.{{cite news |last1=Sewell |first1=Cynthia |title=Idaho veterans head, former lawmaker apologizes for joking about sexual assault victims |url=https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article219373260.html |accessdate=3 October 2018 |publisher=Idaho Statesman |date=October 2, 2018}} The Idaho Falls Post Register editorial board stated, "Hagedorn's poor apology shows he didn't grasp what was wrong with his tasteless joke in the first place."{{cite news |last1=Idaho Falls Post Register Editorial Board |title=Idaho View: Hagedorn must repair damage he did, message he sent |url=https://magicvalley.com/opinion/columnists/idaho-view-hagedorn-must-repair-damage-he-did-message-he/article_15c90038-a503-56fc-8e7a-a3e0a7adbc94.html |accessdate=9 October 2018 |publisher=Magic Valley |date=October 7, 2018}}
