The project is preparing to launch a ship near Silicon Valley to serve as a startup community and entrepreneurial incubator without United States work visa requirements. The platform is set to offer living and office space, high-speed Internet connectivity, and regular ferry service to the mainland.{{cite news |last=Lee |first=Timothy |title=Startup hopes to hack the immigration system with a floating incubator |url=https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/11/startup-hopes-to-hack-the-immigration-system-with-a-floating-incubator.ars |accessdate=30 November 2011 |newspaper=Ars Technica |date=2011-11-29}}{{cite news |last=Donald |first=Brooke |title=Blueseed Startup Sees Entrepreneur-Ship as Visa Solution for Silicon Valley |url=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/16/blueseed-startup-sees-ent_n_1153300.html |accessdate=12 March 2011 |newspaper=Huffington Post |date=16 December 2011}} The existence of the project is due to the lack of U.S. visas for entrepreneurs. Instead, customers will use the much easier to obtain B-1/B-2 visas to travel to the mainland, while work will be done exclusively on the ship.

On July 31, 2013, Marty announced he was stepping back from day-to-day operations at Blueseed and taking on the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors.{{cite web |url=http://blueseed.co/blog/two-years-of-blueseed/ |title=Two years of Blueseed |last=Marty |first=Max |date=2013-07-31 |accessdate=2013-07-31 |publisher=Blueseed |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130821073922/http://blueseed.co/blog/two-years-of-blueseed/ |archivedate=2013-08-21 }}
