"{{lang|is|Með hækkandi sól|i=no}}" took place in the first semi-final out of two semi finals, the first one taking place on 26 February 2022. In each semi-final, five of the ten competing acts performed, and two entries determined solely by the viewing public through telephone voting progressed to the final. As per the rules of the competition, an additional optional qualifier could be selected by the contest organisers from among the non-qualifying acts, which would also progress to the final. This option was subsequently invoked by the organisers, meaning that a total of five acts qualified for the final.{{cite web |last=Kristiansen |first=Wivian Renee |date=2022-03-05 |title=Two more qualifiers and a wildcard qualify for the final of Söngvakeppnin |url=https://escxtra.com/2022/03/05/two-more-qualifiers-and-a-wild-card-to-the-final-of-songvakeppnin/ |access-date=2022-03-06 |website=ESCXtra |language=en}} "{{lang|is|Með hækkandi sól|i=no}}" qualified as one of the two finalists.{{cite web |last=Terry |first=Connor |date=2022-02-26 |title=The first semi-final of Iceland's Söngvakeppnin has concluded, two artists off to the final on March 12th |url=http://www.escunited.com/the-first-semi-final-of-icelands-songvakeppnin-has-concluded-two-artists-off-to-the-final-on-march-12th/ |access-date=2022-02-26 |website=ESCUnited |language=en-US}}

= At Eurovision =

According to Eurovision rules, all nations with the exceptions of the host country and the "Big Five" (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) are required to qualify from one of two semi-finals in order to compete for the final; the top ten countries from each semi-final progress to the final. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) split up the competing countries into six different pots based on voting patterns from previous contests, with countries with favourable voting histories put into the same pot. On 25 January 2022, an allocation draw was held which placed each country into one of the two semi-finals, as well as which half of the show they would perform in. Iceland was placed into the first semi-final, which was held on 10 May 2022, and performed in the second half of the show.

The song qualified for the grand final and was performed in the second half.{{cite web |date=2022-01-25 |title=Eurovision 2022: Which Semi-Final is your country performing in? 🇮🇹 |url=https://eurovision.tv/story/eurovision-2022-semi-finals |access-date=2022-01-25 |work=Eurovision.tv |publisher=European Broadcasting Union (EBU)}}
