The show replaced the similar Fox News Watch, the last edition of which aired on August 31, 2013. Media Buzz aired at the same time as CNN's Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter, which Kurtz had hosted from 1992 until his departure from CNN on June 30, 2013, and was wound down in 2022.{{cite news |title=MediaBuzz |work=Fox News |url=http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/media-buzz/index.html}}{{Cite web |author=Frank Pallotta |title=CNN is ending 'Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter' |url=https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/18/media/reliable-sources-cnn-brian-stelter/index.html |access-date=2022-08-19 |website=CNN|date=18 August 2022 }} Media Buzz surpassed one million viewers in late 2013.{{cite news |author1=Steinberg, Brian |date=November 19, 2013 |title=Howard Kurtz Cracks 1M Viewers On Fox News MediaBuzz |work=Variety |url=https://variety.com/2013/tv/news/howard-kurtz-cracks-1m-viewers-on-fox-news-mediabuzz-1200855117/}}{{cite news |author1=Flint, Joe |date=November 12, 2013 |title=CNN's 'Reliable Sources' overtaken by Fox News' 'Media Buzz' |work=Los Angeles Times |url=https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-stelter-kurtz-cnn-fox-media-20131112-story.html}}
