From Evandale in northern Tasmania, Phillips was educated at Scotch Oakburn College in Launceston.{{cite news|last1=Fair|first1=Alex|title=Phillips to play county cricket|url=http://www.examiner.com.au/story/2860128/phillips-to-play-county-cricket/|accessdate=4 June 2017|work=The Examiner|date=3 February 2015}} She made her debut for Tasmanian Roar as a 16 year old against the ACT Meteors in 2011.
