Producers for Mektoub had withdrawn funds during post-production after discovering that Kechiche intended to split Mektoub into two or three films.{{cite web |last1=Roxborough |first1=Scott |title=Director Abdellatif Kechiche: Why I'm Selling My Palme d'Or (Exclusive)|work=The Hollywood Reporter|date=21 June 2017 |url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/director-abdellatif-kechiche-why-im-selling-my-palme-dor-1014637 |accessdate=2 May 2019}} Kechiche did find the funds necessary to finish the film and succeeded in splitting the film with the sequel, Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo premiering in 2019.
